On XCR’23: Round 1 Jells Park Relays

The On XCR’23 season kicked off with a bang with the traditional round 1 Jells Park Relays. With a one week turn-around from the U13-U18 Australian Track & Field Championships it was fantastic to see a number of juniors join our senior athletes on the course.

Having just returned from the national championships in Queensland, Emily Mifsud, Charlotte Jackson and Lara Sacaner all starred in our U18 women’s relay which finished first with a time of 34:09.

Our Men’s Division 2 team consisting of World Cross Country representative Archie Noakes and Commonwealth Games hero Liam Adams, put on a powerful performance to finish third with a time of 1:59:25. With U16 Charles Barrett joining Matthew Sostaric, Damien Bruneau and Ben Rowse alongside Noakes and Adams, it was an excellent team effort to secure a place on the podium.

Well done to our Team 1 U16 Men who narrowly finished fourth in 31.43, with team 2 coming not far behind in 12th in 35:49. Given then strong opposition in this age group it was fantastic results from both teams.

Opening our Premier Division campaign for the open women was Commonwealth Games and World Championship representative Linden Hall. Congratulations to Hall on finishing her leg in 19:42 to be the fastest senior female on the day. Unbelievable running from Lara Sacaner (11:08) saw her finish as the second fastest junior female across a 3km leg, with teammates, Emily Mifsud (11:25) and Charlotte Jackson (11:36) also featuring in the top 20 3km athletes.

Liam Adams running 17:54, finished fourth fastest across the men’s 6km with Archie Noakes not far behind in 7th with 17:58.

Thanks to Cameron Noakes for assisting with a club duty and to Brian Anderson for bringing the club tent. Thank you to Sandra Schultze, Charlotte Wilson, Stephen Murphy, Ken Hall and Joanna Margiolis for coordinating the teams.
