Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL)

The Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL) is Athletics Victoria’s summer track & field interclub competition. With over 50 clubs and five AVSL divisions, clubs battle it out across ten rounds of AVSL for a place in the Playoffs in March and, to decide promotion and relegation from each of the divisions.

Each athlete can register for and compete in as many events as they wish. Athletes will be scored based on a performance scale, with their best three individual events (plus one relay) counting towards their club’s overall score.

This competition usually takes place on Saturday afternoons, across two metropolitan venues and three regional venues with athletes selecting which venue they compete at.
RECOMMENDED MEMBERSHIP PACKAGE: If you are planning on competing in more than 5 rounds of AVSL we recommend purchasing the Athletics Victoria Track & Field Package.

Specialist Meets

Regular specialist meets occur throughout the season, giving athletes the opportunity to compete in additional competitions specific to their preferred event disciplines. These meets occur regularly on weeknights at various venues. These competitions include:

  • High Velocity (sprints and jumps)
  • Victorian Milers Club (middle distance)
  • Rare Air Club (pole vault)
  • AV Throwers (all throws events)
  • Victorian Race Walking club

Please refer to the Athletics Victoria Specialist Competition page for more information.

If you ONLY intend on competing at specialist meets and championships OR less than five AVSL meets, we recommend purchasing the Athletics Victoria Base Membership Package.

Championships

We encourage all our athletes to enter the Victorian Relay Championships and Victorian Track & Field Championships. Those who compete at the Championships as Open athletes earn the club points which contribute to the H. H. Hunter Memorial Shield. This is awarded to the best overall team performance at the conclusion of Victorian Track & Field Championships.

If you ONLY intend on competing at specialist meets and championships OR less than five AVSL meets, we recommend purchasing the Athletics Victoria Base Membership Package.

XCR COMPETITION

The XCR series takes place from April to September and targets cross country and road racing runners. XCR provides athletes with the opportunity to compete across various distances from 3km through to half-marathons. There are a number of relay rounds which enable you to team up with your friends and race around some fantastic scenic courses.

XCR is held across various metropolitan and regional areas, which allow for a fun team day out. As with the track & field season, the XCR series also splits the club into teams based on age.

If you are planning on competing in more than 5 rounds of XCR we recommend purchasing the Athletics Victoria XCR Package. If you intend to compete in BOTH the XCR and AVSL seasons we recommend purchasing the Athletics Victoria Max Package.
