AVSL 2022/23: Round 5 Wrap

The Melbourne weather threw ferocious gusts of wind, arctic blasts and rain, but none of that could contend with the determination of the athletes to outlast natures force. Despite a number of flying marquees, chairs and high jump mats round 5 of AVSL went ahead successfully. Despite the many challenges faced by our athletes it was fantastic to see a strong turn out as we hit the half way point of the home and away season.

Kim Walsh was in fantastic form, achieving a PB in all of her events despite the conditions. Congratulations Armani Mauriohooho, Melissa Foster, Mackenzie Leith and Brett Maurer on being listed in the top 10 Most Valuable Athletes for Zone A.

Thanks to Anna Kasapis, Kristen Towers, Maggie Armstrong and Sarah Mullens for assisting with duties at Geelong.

As we head into round 6 we currently sit third on the Premier Division ladder. A big push by all athletes over the next two rounds would set us up well as we enter 2023.

Of course, a big thank you to the Athletics Victoria officials for their efforts throughout the day and our club coaches for supporting our athletes.

We’d like to thank Ryk Neethling and Joanna Margiolis for taking photos at Meadowglen this weekend. Photos can be viewed on our Facebook page.
