Weekly Wrap March 12th 2024

There are still a few specialist meets coming up for the summer T&F season & last Saturday saw a Rare Air, High Velocity & Thrower’s meet at Lakeside, despite the blistering temperatures. AV thankfully brought the programs forward to keep the athletes out of the extreme mid afternoon sun but it was still a good test of fortitude & hydration routines! Some of the results were on fire too…..

Both PB’s & showing that consistency pays off….Coming in at the pointy end of the season. Well done!

KICKSTART YOUR XCR SEASON WITH THE BILL BURKE CLASSIC
Saturday, 13 April 2024


The cross country season kicks off on April 27 with the first round of racing at Jells Park with team relays.  The season consists of 10 rounds taking place across a variety of courses/locations including Hanging Rock, St Anne’s Wineries in both Ravenswood & Myrniong & culminating in the final round at The Tan, which is also a program of relays.


Presentation Day on Sunday, 5 May

The end of the 23/24 summer season celebrations are taking place on Sunday May 5, 2024 with Athletics Essendon holding a BBQ for members & their family & friends at the Buckley Park Bowls Club. The afternoon is centred around award presentations but is a great opportunity to socialise with all our fellow athletes & families & is a great finish to the season.  Trophies are awarded for Senior & Junior Athlete of the Year, AVSL awards & record acknowledgments with ticket prices very reasonable at:

  • $5 – child ( aged between 12-17);
  • $10 – adult; or
  • $20 – family.
