Held at Box Hill, “the home of PB’s”, on Thursday 18/1, Essendon was represented by 29 athletes – 4 in the 800 with the remaining majority in the 1500 races.  It was again a very jam-packed program but ran like clockwork & despite the chilly wind, our athletes managed several PB’s & SB’s!!  Here are some of the highlights…

Jesse Lumby (M16) led from the gun to win his 1500m heat with a 5 sec PB.  His 4:09.90 was just shy of a National Qualifier however it was a great effort in just his second race back from injury.  In a nail-biting heat 1, Archie Bramble & Noah Tarallo (both M16), went head to head right to the finish line with Archie holding out to win & also pick up the $100 Dash for Cash prize!  His 4:23.45 was a 4 sec PB while Noah’s 4:24.92 was a 3 sec PB.  In the same race, Sam Duncan (M18) finished a credible 5th in 4:26.55, a 2 sec PB.  Heat N saw Leonard Gray (M14) absolutely obliterate his PB by 12 seconds with a sub 5.  Lucas Harris (M16) continues to improve each start & ran another PB, coming 2nd in the J heat, with a time of 4:28.31 & Dylan Rowbottom (M18) finished with a SB in the same heat.

Finley Symons (M18) was well placed in heat E when he fell & despite his spikes being torn from the fall, he got up to finish & was only 4 sec off his PB…. incredible commitment & mindset, well done!

Another solid performance from Sarah Fitzpatrick (F16) in her first Aths season, running a superb tactical race to finish second in 5:03.54 against many seasoned campaigners & only a fraction off her PB.  Jennifer Mendes (FOP) won her 1500 heat in a handy time of 5:09.61.  PB’s were also achieved by Seb Moore (MOP), Jayme-Lee Cobain (F16), Saana Jayasinghe (F16) & Charlotte Gray (F18) who led for most of her race but was pipped on the line.  Rosa Barbanti (F16)  also produced a strong SB in the 1500m while Hanna Alias was only shy of her PB by 1 sec.

Head over to Results Hub for the remaining results.  Great work again by our athletes & their club coaches, Charlotte, Mark & Gregor.
