Weekly Wrap September 14th 2023

Hello everyone & Happy Spring!

Cheers to warmer weather, hopefully, less wind & longer days to come!

Apologies that we have been offline for a while as the new committee settles in.  The winter cross country series has been going very well for the Club with some great performances over the rounds as well as excellent results at the recent Australian Cross Country Championships.  From the junior age groups, Jonty Neethling, Noah Tarallo, Lara Sacaner, Emily Mifsud and Charlotte Jackson have had a bumper season, proudly coached by the Club’s Mark Carey and Gregor Gojrzewski.

The last XCR at Burnley saw a handy 8th place run from Rosa Barbanti in the U16 women, a fantastic 2nd place from Jonty Neethling & 5th from the up-and-coming, Noah Tarallo in the men’s U16.  Charles Barrett continued his awesome form with a great 3rd place in the U18 men also.  There were several other solid performances & a good turnout in some of the other age divisions too.  The Club is currently leading overall in the U16 boys, ahead of Diamond Valley who are pushing hard to remain at the top of the Premier Division leaderboard going into the summer season!  C’mon Essendon boys, you can do it!  Round 10 is the last round of the XCR season, being held at The Tan this coming weekend so we wish all athletes the best of luck – the weather looks kind, if not a tad warm!!  On that note, we need two volunteers from the Club to assist on the day & names need to be in to secretary@athleticsessendon.org.au BY MIDDAY THIS WEDNESDAY, 13/09/23.  Many thanks in advance!

Finally, the much-anticipated AVSL season is almost upon us with the first round commencing on October 7.  Essendon is hosting this round at Aberfeldie, as well as rounds 3, 5, and 9, with rounds 7 & 11 a possibility also.  Athletics Victoria will be releasing further details about the upcoming season with venues & timetables available soon.  As always, any helpers who are able to volunteer their much-valued time on the day would be most appreciated, particularly with equipment set up/pack-up, so if you’re already down there as a parent supporting your young athletes or only starting the season with one or two events, it would be amazing if you could pop your names down in a timeslot when the worksheets are released – our Club has a great record for amazing helpers so let’s keep our reputation & morale at the top of the ladder!  Looking forward to seeing you all out & about again soon!  Happy training 😊

If anyone would like to submit results, updates on performances, photos or I have missed any info that someone would like included, please don’t hesitate to email me – kristowers@me.com or secretary@athleticsessendon.org.au  We would love to hear!!
