We had quite a few distance runners head up to Sydney, for the 49th running of the City to Surf (C2S) on Sunday Aug 11.
With a sell-out field for the first time in ten years, there were 84,259 entries.
With nearly 10,000 of these runners from outside of NSW or overseas.
Here are our club finishers :-
Charlotte Wilson, Danielle Stasinowsky, Glenda Morris, Kim Cova, Liam Adams, Peter Stead, Robyn Coyne and Stephen Murphy. The main challenge for many of the runners was to actually get to Sydney with terrible weather delaying flights out of Melbourne for up to 12 hours.
A fantastic result by Aths Ess power couple Charlotte Wilson and Liam Adams, both of them finishing in second place.
With Harry Summers (BOH) in the form of his life and the hottest Australian distance runner of 2019 to date, Harry just missed out on breaking Steve Moneghetti’s 1991 course record of 40:03 by two seconds 40:05.
Liam’s time of 41:02 for second place was a great result. It was faster than his previous wins here in 2011 (41:11) and in 2012 (41:31).
Also with the last 1km of the course altered, it may actually be a more difficult course to get a fast time on, than it was previously.
This has been Charlotte’s home race for many years and it was a breakthrough result for her to come across the line in second place, beating the third paced runner by 43 seconds..
2019 has been a massive year so far for Charlotte and this result was a great reward for her, with all the hard training and racing she has been doing with Liam & Dinneen Runners.
Note :- 2020 will be the 50th running of the Sydney City to Surf and this race is acknowledged as the largest run of it kind in the world.
So do yourself a favour and see you all in Sydney in 2020!
