Darren Clark – Hurdles, Sprints & Multi-Events Coach
Darren Clark is a highly experienced athletics coach with over 20 years dedicated to developing athletes in hurdles, sprints, and multi-events. Currently the Head Athletics Coach at Maribyrnong Sports Academy, Darren has been instrumental in guiding athletes to success on the national and international stage.
His coaching résumé includes working with Olympians and World Championship representatives, including coaching Celeste Mucci (100m hurdles) and Tori West (hurdles) at the 2024 Olympic Games. Darren has also served as an Australian Team Coach at major events such as the 2019 World University Games, where he coached athletes in the heptathlon, high jump, javelin, and hurdles.
Holding a Level 4 Athletics Australia coaching accreditation, a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education), and Level 1 ASCA Strength & Conditioning certification, Darren combines technical expertise with a strong educational foundation. His coaching philosophy is centred on fostering high-performance habits while encouraging athlete autonomy, competence, and a strong sense of belonging.
Darren’s long-standing connection with Athletics Essendon stems from his work with many of the club’s athletes through Maribyrnong Sports Academy, building strong relationships with both athletes and fellow coaches. He welcomes athletes aged 15 and above and offers private coaching tailored to their goals.
