The Victorian Government has declared the 9th of October “Peter Norman Day”, in memory and support of Peter’s silent salute for human rights, in Mexico City, along side Tommy Smith and John Carlos.
The USATF declared the 9th of October as Peter Norman Day 12 years ago.
Peter was a long time member of Essendon EMH.
Peter was a man of faith, and a strong humanitarian.
Peter stood for what was right, regardless of the consequence.
Peter ran 20.06 in the Olympic 200 metre final on the 16th of October 1968, in Mexico City, a time that is still the Australian, and an Athletics Essendon record.
We honour him, just as he has been honoured and celebrated throughout the world.
