Essendon’s women middle distance

The remarkable success of middle distance women at Essendon since 1995.

Linden Hall has been selected to represent Australia in the 1500m at the 2016 Olympics.

Essendon was represented in the 1500m by Margaret Crowley at the 1996 & 2000 Olympics and Sarah Jamieson (photo) at the 2004 & 2008 Olympics.

Margaret set an Australian record of 4.01.34 in 1995, broken by Sarah with the current record of 4.00.93 in 2006.

Linden is the fastest of 3 Australians selected for the Rio Olympics with 4.01.78 which creates interest in the possibility of a new record and the first ever Australian sub-4 minute.

Linden broke all 14 Essendon junior girl’s middle distance records during her early years. That’s 800m & 1500m for Under 13 to Under 18 and Under 20. Linden’s U13 1500 record was firstly 5.14.13 in 2003 which she improved to 5.06.05. Currently the U13 record is Erin Rayner’s 4.43.31.

All of these records have been broken.

These 14 club junior records now are held by Maddison Caulfield (6), Erin Rayner (5), Lauren Ryan (2) and Letetia Presser (1).
