COACHES

Jumps, Sprints

Mariah Ririnui

About:

I love working with young athletes and helping them build strong foundations, confidence, and enjoyment in athletics. For the past three years I’ve been the Club Coach for Sprints, Hurdles and Jumps at Papamoa Athletics Club in Tauranga, and I also coach a small group of 15–16‑year‑olds in long jump and high jump. In March 2025, one of my athletes won the NZ Girls U18 High Jump title, as well as the Senior Girls High Jump and Long Jump at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships.

Before coaching at club level, I spent six years at Athletics New Zealand, including four years as the Coaching Coordinator, leading community coach education, developing resources, and serving as the Safeguarding Officer.

My coaching approach focuses on teaching the basics really well, keeping sessions fun, and supporting the whole child. I aim to create a positive, balanced environment where young athletes feel motivated, included, and excited to stay in the sport long term.

As an Athlete:

I have won 5 x New Zealand titles in Long Jump and placed 2nd at the 2023 Oceania Champs in the Open Women’s Long Jump. My PB is 6.36m.

Qualifications:

Applying for level 2 through recognition of prior learning
