AVSL 2022/23: Round 6 Wrap

It took six rounds, but we finally hit our first 30+ degree competition for the 2022/23 season. As we’ve now past the midpoint of the season it was fantastic to see number of athletes begin to enter extra events in order to ensure they’d qualified for the Playoffs.

This week our “power event” was triple jump with eight athletes being listed in the top 5 of their respective age groups. Congratulations to the following athletes on their excellent triple jump results; Ebuka Okpala, Matthew Millington, Liam Glew, Katie Baynes, Tesia Haggai, Khushnoor Rangi, Linda Caliguiri and Kim Walsh. A big congratulations to Ebuka Okpala on recording 14.94m to reach 501 points.

Congratulations to Mackenzie Leith, Khushnoor Rangi and Armani Mauriohooho who continue to find themselves in the top 10 Most Valuable Athletes for Zone A.

The strong results from all our athletes across all events enabled us to record a valuable 35,430 points which saw us finish behind Diamond Valley’s 41,761. This now sees us sitting in third place on the Premier Division ladder. With only 4 rounds left before Playoffs we ask all athletes to ensure that they have competed in a minimum of three rounds and qualified in at least 4 events.

A very special thank you to the Athletics Victoria officials who stayed out in the scorching heat all afternoon and to our club coaches for supporting our athletes.

Big thanks to Spars Veljanovski, Danny Hawksworth and Mark Hambling for assisting with duties at Geelong.

We’d like to thank Joanna Margiolis for taking photos at Doncaster this weekend. Photos can be viewed on our Facebook page.
