AVSL 2020/21 Round 1

It was exciting to be back competing on Sunday when the AVSL season finally got under way.

A very different look to anything we have ever experienced with Ingress sign in, Egress, Covid apps, only 50 athletes in each session.

We had a choice of four events (60m, 600m, long jump and discus) with our three best scores being counted towards our club score.

At the end of a fairly long day ESS managed to win the round in Premier Division by 5000 points from Doncaster then daylight to Glenhuntly in 3rd place; a very solid start.

The top performing age groups were the Men’s Under 18 and Womens Under 14. Both finished 1st in the state. Closely followed with 2nd places to the Mens under 20’s and Mens 40+ teams.

Each age division topped Yellow Zone!

There were many new faces competing for the first time and hopefully they enjoyed their experience.

Linda Caligiuri topped the State in the 60m sprint, earning a massive 568pts.

Caroline Higham returned to comp with a solid 1:35.87 600m run, earning 493 pts, to be our top performer in this event.

One of our new junior members, Jamison Towers finished 4th in the State long jump results with a great leap of 4.85m.

Next week, Round 2 is at Werribee. The club is still in need of a few Helpers, for the 3rd and 4th sessions. If you are free for an hour please call John on 0414373157.

Each member should make themselves available to help for at least one hour per season. Now is a good time to start.

A very big thank you to our many volunteers from last Sunday; many were at the track at 7am and still working at 3pm to allow the comp to proceed.
