Athletics Victoria Life Membership

Congratulations to Ian Williams who was last night inducted as an Athletic Victoria Life Member.

Ian first joined the Essendon Amateur Athletic Club in 1955 and remained an active member at Essendon until 2019. His long-standing commitment to the club saw him awarded a club life membership in 1979.

Having served as club President in two stints from 1977-78 and 2001-06 as well as Secretary (1967-72) and Treasurer (2007-19), Ian played a critical role in the continued development and growth of this club for over 50 years. His tireless effort to lobby the Essendon Council saw the eventual development and construction of the all-weather athletics track at Aberfeldie Park (which opened in 1972). Ian also played a key role in initiating the formation of the Essendon Little Athletics Club.

Ian’s commitment to athletics extended beyond the club, having been appointed a Director of the Athletics Victoria Foundation in 2004 and subsequently appointed Chairman in 2005, a position he held until 2011. Ian also served as Treasurer for a year during his time with Athletics Victoria. He remained a Director until his resignation in 2018, bringing his total years of service with Athletics Victoria to 14 years.

We’d like to thank Ian for his many years of service.
