From small beginnings to the big stage – former Athletics Essendon member Tom Sims was selected as pick number 28 in the AFL Draft in November 2024 and has now made his debut for Richmond!

While we proudly wear the red and black at AE, we can’t help but celebrate Tom’s incredible achievement in joining the Tigers. Tom trained with AE coach and current President Martin Sheppard in high jump, and at just 15 years old, recorded a medal-winning personal best of 1.96m.

He also dabbled in heptathlons during his younger years and was always recognised as a talented all-rounder, so it’s no surprise he’s made his way into the elite levels of the AFL.
