ATHLETICS ESSENDON PRESENTATION DAY & END OF SUMMER SEASON BREAK-UP, SUNDAY MAY 18 AT ABERFELDIE
With only a couple of track & field events left on the AV summer calendar, it is time to acknowledge & celebrate our Club’s track & field athletes!! We are planning a slight change to the event proceedings this year & the end of season break-up will be taking place at our home ground of Aberfeldie on Sunday May 18 at 1pm. Further details will be shared as they come to hand but please lock in the date on your Aths calendar & come along to enjoy a great social afternoon with like-minded Club families & athletes, enjoy a bite to eat & cheer on our Club superstars as they receive their medals, trophies & certificates, as we acknowledge the fantastic successes of their 24/25 T&F season
MILERS, MEET #5, DONCASTER March 13th
There was a big showing of red & black at the last Vic Milers meet of the season on Thursday March 13. Many athletes peaking coming into Nationals next month & getting that last race in before taper. Gregor’s squad in particular saw 29 of his athletes compete with a swag of PB’s & SB’s amongst the many AE performances. We hear it was a very exciting night with the lights going out at the track affecting both the overhead floodlights & the pacing lights but thankfully, mobile phone torches lit the way beautifully & even saw some track records fall, particularly in the Men’s 1500m A race! Three of our athletes raced in the A races of the 1500m which is worth a round of applause in itself. Unfortunately, only one photo was sent in & the rest were missing in action but please enjoy the following results –

ESSENDON FOOTY CLUB FUJITSU FLAME
IS THIS YOU?! Essendon Football Club is still searching for this season’s Fujitsu Flame. Are you an avid Essendon fan? Do you want free tickets to 11 rounds of AFL watching your favourite team? Can you run fast? Then maybe this is an opportunity that appeals to YOU!
They are looking for a male or female sprinter to dress up as the Club’s Fujitsu Flame for 2025. The applicant will be required to race against a random spectator chosen out of the crowd at half-time & if they beat the flame, they win a prize. The chosen athlete will receive four free tickets to 11 rounds of Essendon games this season, including the Dreamtime match (R11 on May 23rd). A sprinter is preferred & obviously they need to be available for all matches (details can be obtained by calling AE Vice Pres. Kristen Towers – 0417 117 252). LOST & FOUND GEAR, AE CLUBROOMS, PLEASE COLLECT!
The pile of gear, clothing, water bottles & miscellaneous items left at the track after training & competitions is building to a level similar to that of Mt. Kosciuszko at the moment & we are calling all members to make a trip into the AE Clubrooms to sort through the property & check whether any of it belongs to you or someone you know. The collection will be gifted to an appropriate charity if not claimed in the next couple of weeks, so mum or dad & all AE athletes, feel free to sort through it to see if that expensive gear purchased has ended up homeless!

XCR SEASON 2025 COMMENCES MAY 10, 2025
AV & AE MEMBERSHIP FEES
With registrations soon to open for season 25/26, we would like to take this opportunity to let the membership know of a new concept to be introduced this season. The website will be updated very shortly to reflect these changes but just to give you all a quick explanation, it centres around the issues that continued to arise over the summer track & field season in relation to attracting volunteers to the helper tasks allocated each round to the Club. As a result, we are introducing a new policy & fee in an attempt to entice more members to put their hands up to help each week without the committee ringing around at the end of every week in an attempt to round up names. The bonus with all this is that there is a capacity for members to not only earn their volunteer subsidy back but to make extra coin which could potentially pay off your membership fees for the year! This is especially attractive to our junior members whom we are trying to involve in the duties to assist them in understanding what it takes to run our sport & therefore enhance appreciation for all that our hard-working parents do, build camaraderie & extra skills as well as offer them a capacity to make some extra cash! Please read the below outline of this new policy & if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to one of our friendly committee members who will be only too happy to better explain the concept
