AVSL ROUND 5 RESULTS, November 16th

Athletics Essendon finished 3rd on the Premier Division ladder & I’m sure everyone who competed will agree that it was a very hot one so well done to all who braved the heat!  The high temperatures didn’t seem to worry F16 athlete, Armani Mauriohooho, who finished 2nd on the MVA ladder again!  Armani is having a massive season & clearly has her sights on the overall MVA  Champion title, finishing round 6 on a mighty 1322 points.  Well done Armani & her team.

Age Group Premiership Scores were also fairly high across many age groups with the M40-49 athletes from AE taking out another win for the week – awesome work fellas!  M18, F18 & F16 finished 3rd in their respective age groups, whilst F60+ were 4th, FOP scored a 6th place finish, F40-49 8th, M50-59 & M60+ 9th, F20 10th & the remaining age groups just missed out on a top 10 finish for the round.

We would like to celebrate a couple of PB’s, with Xavier Walsh (Mark Carey) continuing his solid improvements, with a 57.35 in the U14 400m & Nina Lawson FOP, from Steve Gaffney’s sprint squad running a handy PB in the 100m – 12.17 (1.4) & 57.41 in the 400m.  Wonderful performances from Xavier & Nina, congratulations!

Please feel free to send us your results to celebrate if you achieve a PB or National Qualifier as we would love to share with the membership – secretary@athleticsessendon.org.au

A small contingent of AE athletes raced the Doncaster Mile with the following results -:

  • Maggie Armstrong – 100 yards – 16.43, 1 mile – 7:33.6
  • Brendan Ashcroft – 100 yards – 10.24
  • Aidan Clarke – 1 mile – 4:54.20
  • Samual Duncan – 5000m – 17:14.49

Well done everyone & thank you for representing the red & black so beautifully.

Phenomenal results across the board at State Relays last weekend with a superb medal haul & I hazard to guess, one of our most successful Relay campaigns for quite some time.  Our Team Managers worked tirelessly in the weeks leading up to the weekend, gathering individual interest, forming teams, sending countless messages & confirmations, receiving/making numerous phone calls & providing everything over the weekend, from zooper doopers to water sprayers to spare spikes!  The weather was crazy hot on Saturday, reaching 38 degrees, whilst Sunday, we all copped a drenching!  Nonetheless, Athletics Essendon shone through as the second strongest club over the weekend as you can see by the medal tally below.  Huge congratulations to each & every athlete on your team spirit, camaraderie, encouragement to all teams & superb results!  Many thanks to our AE Team Managers, coaches, duty volunteers & parents for helping to make the weekend such a success.
