Athletics Essendon failed by the smallest margin to achieve its goal of getting all teams into the Shield Final at Lakeside on Feb 23.Zone Premiers were FOP, F16, F14, M40, MOP and M14.Also going through were F18 and M18.
The unlucky team was the boy’s Under 16 team. They left their run a little late in the season to finish in equal second place but with just a few points less than WES. The final round almost went to the High Court with AV having to check results throughout Monday & Tuesday. Team Manager, Sam Healy, said it was a real team effort by the boys, with several competing at 2 venues; Emmanuel Villi and Jack Walsh both scored over 1100 points. The lesson here is to be consistent throughout the season.
Make sure you let your team managers know if you’re not available for Feb 23 AND make sure you have the correct uniform.
Highlight of the round was Faith Villi breaking her own U/13, U/14 & U/15 shot put record by 9cm.Montana Djatschenko scored 1271 points over 3 events, 100m, long jump and javelin.Jo Marigiolis again worked tirelessly, competing in 7 events for 1461 points. Jo has lead the way throughout the year doing every event from steeplechase to javelin and everything between.Louise Mendes 53.90m hammer(512points) and 11.67m shot put (491 pts), Maddi Alexander 1.70m high jump(500 pts), Toby O’Brien 9:26 steeple (508 pts)and Graham Hicks 42.35m discus (506 pts) were some of the best performances. Many of our athletes also competed in Canberra at the weekend with many good results, including Jack Hale’s 100m win.
