Solomon Hailemelekote recorded an impressive marathon debut to lead the charge for Athletics Essendon in the feature event at Sunday’s Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival.
Hailemelekote finished 18th outright and as the 17th male in clocking 2hr 32min 24sec for the 42.2km course, which took in Melbourne landmarks such as Luna Park, the Royal Botanic Gardens, and Federation Square before an iconic finish on the hallowed turf of the MCG.
Liam Adams was also a standout performer for the club, finishing third in the SriLankan Airlines Half Marathon in a stellar 1:05:09 just three weeks after clocking 2:12:52 at the Berlin Marathon to break his own club record and all but guarantee a spot on the 2018 Commonwealth Games team.
