125th Anniversary Celebrations

Thank you to all our past and present members as well as our special guests for attending our 125th Anniversary Dinner.

We’d like to especially thank our panellists Chris Erickson, Anne Cross and Ryan Tarrant. It was inspiring to hear about their influences, training methods and experiences of these three athletes.

Olympians Chris Erickson and Anne Cross with U20 World Championships representative Ryan Tarrant take part in the International Representatives Panel.

This event couldn’t have flown as smoothly as it did without our extraordinary MC and panel moderator Kim Walsh. We’d like to thank Andrew Boudrie, Joanna Margiolis, Katie Baynes, Jack Walsh and Max Warlow for their wonderful speeches and for representing four generations of Essendon athletes.

The wonderful displays couldn’t have happened without the input of a number of member’s personal item. We’d like to thank Ian Williams, Janine Higham, Duncan Knox, John Cooper and Max Warlow for providing 90 years worth of memorabilia.

This memorable evening couldn’t have happened without the tireless effort and hard work from Kelly Wood, Kim Walsh and Joanna Margiolis. We’d like to thank the three of them for working around the clock over the past 6 months to bring this event together.

Over these passed 125 years the club has seen extraordinary success from interclub level through to the Olympics. Much of this success is because you, as athletes put in the hard work, but it is also because of the incredible team of coaches we have. The tireless work and countless hours that our coaches have put in is above and beyond. The continued success of this club couldn’t be done without them, and we’d like to thank every one of them.

It is thanks to our wonderful sponsors and partners that we have some of the best facilities and athlete financial support system in the state. The Essendon Football Club has been an incredible benefactor to this club for a number of decades. Much of the financial support provided to our athletes and equipment upgrades is thanks to the grants provided from Essendon FC. Bendigo Bank, Keilor East has also provided incredible financial support to this club for many years and we wouldn’t be able to support our athletes financially as much as we have without them.

Essendon Sports Medicine has been a fantastic sponsor on a number of events over the years, in particular Zatopek:10 Track Challenge and the Essendon Gift. Without them we wouldn’t be able to host these events at the highest quality.

The wonderful signage and banners that surround the track, clubrooms and feature at our events is thanks to the continued support of Star Displays. Thanks to their hard work, we continue to have some of the best signage and displays.

A massive thank you to Moonee Ponds Plumbing and Bathrooms for not only continuing to sponsor this club but for also sponsoring the 125th Anniversary Dinner. Without them this wonderful milestone event couldn’t have happened.

As one of the largest and most successful clubs in Victoria we have a number of needs. We wouldn’t be able to provide members with some of the best facilities in the state if it weren’t for the Moonee Valley City Council. Their continued support to ensure that our track is upgraded frequently ensures that we have a state of the art track to train and compete on. As we continue to grow and develop, they’ve supported us by renovating our clubrooms, gym and expanding our storage facilities to ensure we can support our continued growth. Our dreams of hosting bigger night meets and training safely during winter have been realised thanks to the wonderful new lights that Moonee Valley City Council have installed. If it weren’t for council approving our request for a track in the 1970’s we may very well still be running on grass.

A massive thanks must also go out to the support staff at Hyatt Place Melbourne, Essendon Fields. Their hard work made this milestone event a night to remember.

Here is to another 125 successful years.
