Two gold medals for Athletics Essendon’s junior teams highlighted an eight-medal haul from the club at the Victorian Track Relay Championships at Albert Park on Saturday.

The under 18 men’s 4 x 400m outfit of Marcus Gugliemino, Devan Workman, Junior Mabia and Adem Dogan clocked 3min 30.95sec to win by almost two seconds, while the under 18 women’s 4 x 100m team of Stephanie Richards, Nina Lawson and sisters Jennifer and Catherine Mendes took victory in 48.79sec.

The club’s overage competitors also enjoyed a day out, with the 40-plus men taking silver in both their 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m events.

Also taking silver was the under 18 women’s distance medley relay outfit, while the teams in the open women’s distance medley relay, under 18 men’s 4 x 100m and under 14 men’s 4 x 400m all secured bronze.

Among the other Essendon highlights from the day was the performance of the open men’s 4 x 400m team, which will line up in the final at the Zatopek:10 on December 8 after posting 3min 18.79sec to qualify second fastest.
